Curt Parkin - Determine Your Rebate

This Thursday (April 20) The New Water Board May Act to Lower or Remove your Water Bill Rebate!

There have been many indications that the new Water Board is poised to lower (or even abolish) the water cost reduction ("rebate") plan that is now in place with Cal Water. This could increase your monthly water bill substantially and permanently.

The new Water Board wants to remove this cash from your pockets each month to fund other "new services" including establishment of park-recreation facilities on Water District lands along Lake Road.

Here's How to Determine Your Current Rebate from Cal Water

To get an idea of what this could mean to you personally, take a look at your last water bill from Cal Water.

Your rebate for that month's water bill is the line item at the bottom half of your bill labeled "Other charges or credits" with a negative number indicating a credit amount. That credit amount is your water cost reduction or "rebate"  by which your total water bill is reduced for that one month.

To double-check, the current monthly rebate formula is a flat $12 base plus $1 for each "unit" of water you used for the month. At the bottom of your bill you'll see under the heading "Total Usage" a number followed by "CCF." (1 CCF = 100 cubic feet = 748 gallons.)That number of CCF units is the number of units of water your household used that one month.

So for example, if someone's monthly bill says "Total Usage" was 15 CCF units, the rebate for that one month should be $12 + $15 = $27 and "- 27.00" should appear after "Other charges or credits."

If that number is a typical monthly usage, then over a full year the rebate might be approximately $27 x 12 = $324. Note, however, that household usage often rises in the summertime, so a rebate for July might be higher than a rebate for March.

If You Don't Want to Lose Your Rebate to Fund Unspecified "New Services" to be Created by the new Water Board, Please ACT NOW!
