The Water Board meeting at 7:30 on Thursday night is very critical.

Water Cost Rebate Program

Last year the Board lowered the rebate levels to reduce benefits. The total expenditure this year has been about 51% of the overall budget, after excluding $12,400 in overhead. This compares with a minimum of 60% promised based on the community survey responses. Rebate levels varied from 95% for the lowest users to 4% for the highest users.

At this meeting, the Board will set levels for the coming year. Mike Ward will be proposing covering more of the base connections costs since these vary in rather arbitrary ways. Next year, Cal Water Bear Gulch will go to a tiered system where higher users pay more.

If you have an interest in how your tax money is spent, this is the meeting that you should attend.

Filling a newly vacant position

Frasier Miller will resign at this meeting. This opens a new seat on the Board plus the two seats which are being voted on in November.

It has been suggested that the Board might pass a resolution whereby whichever of the three candidates running for the two seats loses, would be appointed to the remainder of Frasier's term. I think that this could be viewed as obviating the upcoming election. I feel that whatever the outcome of the election, the vacant position should be widely promoted to the community and all interested should apply. The Board would then be free to appoint the best qualified candidate.
