Russian Ridge Burn

The burn is scheduled for July 26, when the fog clears, approximately 9:00 a.m., to be completed around noon. For further information or for issues that may arise, call the Mountain View Communication Center at 650-968-4411.

Information on plans for the burn from Armando Muela, Fire Chief (sent to Bill Tagg):

I have been in contact with Cal Fire's Chief and will be receiving their Incident Action Plan (IAP) which outlines the burn's entire operational plan. After verbally reviewing the details with Cal Fire's Chief I'm more comfortable with the information they provided and the steps they are taking for this burn.

The plan requires the normal requirements go, no-go checks, which include burn index (RH), winds, temperatures, air quality, etc.  Cal Fire has also included many resources (7) Type 3 vehicles, structure engines, dozer, hand crews, and air ops.  Also factored are the State resources committed to other fires and a minimum resource from the State being available if the need arises.

There will be an Information Area for any resident and public agency to observe the burn, and hear the particulars as they progress though the burn operations. This will happen if all the prescription items are a go.

Please let me know if any of your residents wish to observe, I will be sending one Chief Officer or representative to observe the burn. They will provide a map to the designated area to observe.

As you might be aware the Fire District is not included directly in this operation but will be informed of the plan.

Below you will find Cal Fire's Angela Peterson's link to the RAWS web site for your weather information.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

Viewing weather data at Russion Ridge:

Here is the link to view weather data at Russian Ridge, for the Remote Automated Weather Station (RAWS), CDF Portable #03: http://raws.wrh.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/roman/meso_base.cgi?stn=TR108  It began transmitting the on-site weather conditions July 13th.  We are still aiming for doing the prescribed burn on Wednesday the 25th.

In addition to viewng the data on the internet, the weather station will give a voice read out of the current conditions.  If you are at Russian Ridge, in range of reaching the weather station on CDF TAC 3, you punch in 9903 to get a voice read out.
