In one of the flurry of discussions going around the community about water issues, Wendi Haskell makes reference to a 1.4 gallon per flush toilet from Home Depot.
Home Depot was recently promoting a low cost toilet that may have been private branded or may have been a Kohler product. I have heard some water industry buzz that the particular product that was the subject of the promotion scored rather low on the flush performance (amount of solids removed). This information may or may not be correct.
If you are in the market to replace a toilet please check the performance rankings at:
http://www.cuwcc.org/toilet_fixtures/UNAR_qualified_toilet_models_07-04-05.pdf for 1.6 gallon per flush models
and

To avoid disappointment it is advisable to focus on products that have a MaP rating of 700 or greater.
These tables are updated rather frequently. If the product you are looking at is not in the table or the manufacturer or retailer cannot provide you with a MaP rating for the product it would be wise to make another selection or wait until such time as you can determine what the performance is.
The meaning of the rating and the testing protocol is at:
