Traffic on Ramona Will Not be Rerouted, 12/18/07:
In response to recently finding that two vehicles were going the wrong way on Los Trancos Circle, plus having met really heavy traffic travelling too fast on Los Trancos Circle during commute hours, Bill Rogoway contacted Mark Marelich of the San Mateo Country Roads Dept.
Mr. Marelich agreed completely that using the Woods as the only alternative to Ramona represented a significant hazard. He has asked the sewer contractor to allow local traffic through at all times on Ramona with possible slight delays. The sign at Ramona should be changed from “Road Closed” to something along the lines of "local traffic only with slight delays”. He has asked them as well to change their sign showing a 10/31 end date to something realistic; Mr. Marelich estimates work will continue through January.
Mr. Marelich would welcome phone calls at 599-7273 if there are additional issues.

Sewer Project Construction Roads Update 12/19/07, from Amanda Lee:
I spoke with Mike Marelich, San Mateo County Public Works Road Operations Inspector, yesterday (Tuesday) morning. He was very pleasant and relayed the following information:
· Work for the next few weeks will be on Carmel only. It will continuing on Ramona afterwards.
· Signs have been ordered and should be in place when work on Ramona resumes allowing through traffic subject to 15 minute delays; signs at driveways of homeowners along Ramona should no longer be needed. Also, Mike will talk to the contractor, KJ Woods, about problems some of you had on Friday trying to get through on Ramona.
· Work could continue into February. Signs should be posted showing reasonable estimated work dates.
· At some point, a manhole 27 feet deep will be placed at the intersection of Los Trancos Road and Ramona, which would require blocking both roads. It has not yet been determined how this will be handled from a traffic or timing standpoint. I hope to keep you informed.
· Regarding the steel plates on Ramona being left with substandard berms and/or surrounded by a lot of unswept debris, creating a real hazard: the roads should be swept on a daily basis prior to work stoppage but some debris is to be expected given the degraded condition due to the work in progress.
· Regarding the final condition of the roads: all roads should be finished to be both level and smooth. Los Trancos Circle is now completed and is a good example of what can be expected.
· Construction workers have noticed a fair number of people driving too fast in work areas. Please drive slowly, safely and courteously through work zones.
I (Amanda) will keep you posted as new information becomes available and attempt to relay concerns.
